Escape From Tehran (title tba)
George Clooney and Grant Heslov to co-write the script.
Based on Joshuah Berman's Wired magazine article detailing how the CIA, with help from Hollywood, used a fake movie project to smuggle a handful of Americans out of Tehran
during the 1979 hostage crisis.
Dec. 9 2007: In a Hollywood Reporter interview, George Clooney says: "We have a project — it’s actually a comedy about something that happened during the Iranian
hostage situation — where six people in the embassy got out and were hiding at the Canadian embassy and the CIA used
Hollywood to fake a film company and go into Tehran and get these guys out. It’s a pretty funny story. We don’t
have a title yet. That’s one that Grant (Heslov) and I are going to write the screenplay on."
Farragut North
Aug.15 2007: NY Post reports that George Clooney and Matt Damon have "snapped up the film rights" to this new play "about presidential
politics." Expected to open on Broadway during the presidential election next fall, Farragut North (the play) will
star Jake Gyllenhaal as "an idealistic young press secretary who works for a Howard Dean-like presidential contender."
Oct. 15 2007: Associated Press reports the movie may depict Gov. Howard Dean's 2004 presidential run, and the Vermont film commission are hoping to persuade
WB to film "significant parts of the movie" in Vermont.
Dec. 6 2007: NY Observer has an interview with Jay Carson, former press secretary of the 2004 Howard Dean presidential campaign. Carson says
the movie is "about a young, brash press secretary" but denies Leonardo DiCaprio is playing him. Beau Willimon,
author of the play 'Farragut North,' also "asserts the main character is entirely fictional." They add that Dean adviser,
J oe Trippi, is "rumored to be played by Mr. Clooney in the movie."
Dec. 9 2007: In a Hollywood Reporter interview, George Clooney says: "We have a play (written by Beau Willimon) that we’re getting adapted (with Warner Bros.) called
“Farragut North” that Leonardo (DiCaprio) is in on, and is working on, and I think that could be a project —
if we can get the screenplay to work — that I’m interested in directing."
Jan. 15 2008: A script summary from Politico: "Just read the screenplay for “Farragut North,” a project ostensibly based on the 2004 Howard Dean campaign
that has George Clooney attached as a director and possible actor along with Leonardo DiCaprio. There’s no “Yee-hah!!”
Dean scream and, in fact, the candidate himself (named Gov. Jim Morris here) barely appears in the story line, which concerns
dirty backroom tricks, robocalls, direct mailings, ad buys, get-out-the-vote drives and snagging the support of black leaders
before the Iowa caucus — all too familiar for anyone following the 2008 race. The film probably won’t start shooting
until later this year and may even hit Broadway first, with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role."
Garland Bunting Project (title tba)
May 30 2001: Variety announcement: Section Eight partners Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney have made a deal at Warner Bros. to develop a feature

in North Carolina during the late 1950s. The project was set up with Section Eight by Eat A Peach Pictures, whose Duncan Brantley
will write the screenplay. Michael Leeson, who wrote "War of the Roses," will be creative consultant, while Soderbergh and
Clooney will produce and Brantley will exec produce. WB's Courtenay Valenti will shepherd the project.
Dec. 12 2006: Article (on Duncan Brantley & Leatherheads) is published stating "Brantley has sold another script to Warner Brothers." The script
refers to this project.
Feb. 1 2007: Article (on Duncan Brantley & Leatherheads) is published stating this project will be Brantley's "next film."
Jan. 3 2008: A USA tabloid claims George Clooney has asked Steven Soderbergh to cast Sarah Larson in this project.
Note: This project was never fully developed under Section Eight and SmokeHouse hasn't made an announcement that
they have picked up the project to produce.

Suburbicon
Announced by the Cincinnati Enquirer Oct. 21 2005 as "For his next directing job, Clooney will shoot a script called "Suburbicon," written by the Coen brothers." George
Clooney is quoted saying "They offered me a part in it a long time ago, and since then decided they have other projects they

funny, very dark comedy."

Dec. 9 2007: In a Hollywood Reporter interview, George Clooney says: “Suburbicon” is a Joel and Ethan (Coen) movie that I talked with them about acting in about
10 years ago, and I always tried to convince them to make the film, but I’ve never been involved as a director on the
film at all."

Ten Commandments
First announced prior to Clooney Studio being online.
Described as a "Ten-hour project [that] explores the spiritual and moral issues faced by modern Americans as interpreted
by 10 different directors. Each episode will center on one of the biblical laws put to the test among a cross-section of today's
different ethnicities, classes and religious persuasions."
Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney were initially producing under Section Eight.
Directors who were reported to have signed on to direct an episode were: Steven Soderbergh, George Clooney, Gus Van Sant, Gary Ross and Nicole Holofcener.
It was initially expected to air on the FX Network in Fall 2006.
In an interview for a Spanish publication in March 2007, George Clooney advised that they (Smoke House) are working on it, trying to bring
together ten directors so each one can handle a commandment as if it was an episode.

The Tourist
Oct. 12 2007: Hollywood Reporter article announcing project. George Clooney & Grant Heslov are to produce for Smoke House. Based on an upcoming book by Olen Steinhauer, it is a
"contemporary international thriller in the vein of John le Carre and Graham Greene and follows a spy who must risk everything
to reveal a conspiracy after he's suspected of a murder he didn't commit."
Dec. 9 2007: In a Hollywood Reporter interview, George Clooney says "We just got it, so it needs a little work, but that’s one I’m actually interested in. Grant
got the option for the book. I just read the screenplay. It needs some work, but it’s one that there’s real potential
in to do sort of an interesting spy thriller. I’d star, but it’ll always depend on the screenplay and how it comes
out."
Jan. 25 2008: Wall Street Journal Europe publishes an interview with Olen Steinhauer, where he describes
his book as "a contemporary thriller set in Europe, but involving the CIA. A "tourist" is an agent with no home and no
identity who moves from town to town, hotel to hotel, working for a fictional CIA section called the Department of Tourism."
They advise the book will be published later this year.
